CLASS DESCRIPTION (will be updated soon!)

Beginners I (new beginners students)
TANGOS:

Tangos is a flamenco cante (singing) closely related in form and feeling to the Rumba. It is often performed as a finale to a Tientos. . Tangos are, then, a sensual dance style, with popular origins, made great by flamenco figures from the Seville school. Note:Tangos flamenco is not related to Argentine Tango.

Class description:
The students will learn the right posture of Flamenco and technique, arm work technique and upper body to start developing a correct Flamenco execution. Including footwork techniques to build strength and speed. Understanding and performing palmas (hand clapping) and compas (rhythm). Understanding to listen flamenco dance, song and guitar structure.

Beginners II
CANTIÑAS CHOREOGRAPHY AND BULERIAS TECHNIQUE

In this class students will learn a more advance technique and choreography por Cantiñas including an introduction to Bulerias, study of compas (rhythm) and learning basics steps and combinations.

These styles of cantes for dancing were indispensable in any flamenco party, and as they started to become fashionable in the cafés cantantes they enjoyed a preponderant presence. They represented the beauty and joy of flamenco companies for several years, and it was to their rhythm that La Mejorana, Gabriela Ortega, La Jeroma, La Macarrona … etc … performed their best desplantes (a series of hard stepping movements that end, or climax, a series of steps or section of a dance). This dance is characterised by a harmonious swinging of the arms, undulating movements, light punteados (a kind of percussion using the feet), paso castellano de perfil (a dance step that is characteristic of cantiñas and alegrías, and is done with side-on to the audience) and escobillas (section of the dance that includes the zapateado, a rhythmic combination of sounds made by stepping with the heel, sole and toe of the foot). (text by Susana Navalón)

Cantiñas: (From the Galician cantiña, song, or from the verb cantiñear, that is, to sing softly, improvising and playfully). It is a generic name for a range of cantes (styles of songs) involving happy and lively music, such as caracoles, mirabrás, romeras and alegrías, all of which have generally brief coplas (poetic compositions, in verse, used as lyrics), and are thought to be related with the old Cádiz.

SEVILLANAS:

No experience necessary. All levels and kids from age 7 are welcome.

Sevillanas: is an Andalusian folk dance considered a form of Flamenco. Very popular dance for individuals and couples of all ages. The purpose of this class is to introduce students with the most popular type of flamenco form of the Spanish peninsula.
Sevillanas has a definite form: each of the four Sevillanas in a set contains its own three verses (coplas). The guitar sets the mood with an introductory rhythmic section in 3/4 time and then the singer begins a short introduction called a salida to signal the beginning of the first verse.

Class description: In this class youll learn aspects of flamenco technique including upper body work, arms, footwork and turns. You”ll strenght balance and body control and very important have the aire flamenco (flamenco style) to dance. It is very beautiful and fun!
Every group of students that graduate from Sevillanas we celebrate with a traditional juerga (spanish party). Enroll Now!

Intermediate/Advance
GUAJIRAS WITH FAN AND TECHNIQUE

One of the styles denominated ‘ida y vuelta’ that made the round trip to the Caribbean and back, blending Cuban folk music with flamenco. This class will be dedicated just for woman and will teach more elaborated and gracious forms and technique with new chalenges than basic Guajiras you have learned in Beginner/Intermediate Level. Fan is required and are available in our CLDX Flamenco Boutique. This class is for Intermediate and Advance levels but Beginners level 2 to Intermediate levels are welcome to chalenge.

Advance
SOLEÁ CHOREOGRAPHY AND TECHNIQUE

It is a leading dance that is currently considered to be one of the most meaningful and is very well suited for women, as movements that are typically feminine, such as arm movements, undulating hips and swerving waistlines, are of great importance. It is the dance that is most suited for marcajes (steps marking the lyrics), figuras (set positions) and paseíllos (ceremonial entrance or a series of steps, somewhat like a stroll). Nonetheless, at present, the zapateado (a rhythmic combination of sounds made by stepping with the toe, sole and heel of the foot) and pateos (hard stepping movements) also play an important role. Some flamenco experts deplore the excessive use of heel-stepping in the soleá, but in spite of this the escobilla, which consists of a progressive increase in the speed and complexity of the zapateado in the central section of the dance, is one of its structural elements. It can be distinguished from other flamenco palos (forms) by the solemnity which characterises its performance; feelings move to the foreground.
